CQI and IRCA Certified Foundation courses provide delegates with an understanding of quality management essentials.
Foundation courses are designed specifically for individuals who are beginning their career in quality, or who work in other functions or professions.
There are seven CQI and IRCA Certified Foundation quality management courses you can study, or you can obtain a comprehensive overview of quality management by studying the Foundation Certificate in Quality Management (all seven courses).
The eighth course, is an IRCA auditing course – an introduction to ISO 9001:2015. This course is ideal for those who want to gain an understanding of the management systems approach and the requirements of ISO 9001. It provides a basis for those who wish to go on to complete CQI and IRCA Certified QMS Auditor Training courses.

How do I know which course is right for me?
With CQI and IRCA Certified Training, you can choose from three levels of quality and auditing courses to develop your skills whatever your career stage, wherever you are in the world.
Our certified training follows a natural pathway so that you can progress through the levels and keep developing your skills and knowledge. You can choose to do one individual course or select a pathway and move through the levels.
If you’re unsure which course or level suits your skills and experience you can use the CQI tool to help you decide. Alternatively, please get in touch and one of our dedicated team will contact you to give you the information, advice and guidance that will help you with this.
When can I start the course?
We don’t have set enrolment dates – you can start the course at a time which works for you.
How long will the courses take me to complete?
Each course has a minimum number of guided learning hours. The actual time required to complete the course will vary depending on your individual circumstances and the amount of time you are able to commit to studying.
Indicative study hours and typical course durations are given below:
- Foundation (Quality & Audit): 7-16 hours, 4 weeks
- Practitioner (Quality) 24 hours, 10 weeks
- Practitioner (Audit): 14 hours, 6 weeks
- Professional (Quality): 24-40 hours (dependent on course), 10 weeks.
Our course resources are comprehensive and you may choose to spend additional time studying beyond the minimum requirement to gain deeper insight and maximise the value of your learning experience.
The maximum duration for each course is six months, in line with the CQI and IRCA registration timeframe.
For learners undertaking the Foundation, Practitioner or Professional Certificate in Quality Management, the maximum completion period is three years, as specified by CQI and IRCA.
How are the courses delivered?
We deliver our courses through supported distance learning.
When you enrol you will be allocated a dedicated education and quality specialist Tutor who will provide guidance and feedback during your course.
Using your web based account you will access learning resources, submit your work, view your feedback, see your progress and access your certificate.
What’s included?
Course fees include course induction, tutorial and study support, all learning and assessment materials, access to our online systems, registration and certification with the CQI and IRCA.
Please note: ISO Standards are not provided (required for FD116 and PT236). These standards can be purchased directly from the British Standards Institution (BSI) website.
