Leading Quality and Compliance at a Strategic Level

Sustainability, Quality and Business Compliance Director Sherry Cook has successfully completed the CQI and IRCA Professional Certificate in Quality Management. This achievement has strengthened her strategic leadership and supported her work in embedding quality, compliance and sustainability across Ilika Technologies Ltd.

We caught up with Sherry to hear about her role in driving operational excellence, why she chose to study with rove and how her studies have helped her embed quality as a core business value.

MAKING COMPLIANCE WORK FOR THE BUSINESS

As a Sustainability, Quality and Business Compliance Director, Sherry’s role is diverse – combining strategic oversight with practical guidance. She supports colleagues on risk and regulatory matters, ensures management systems are effective and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to maintain quality, safety and environmental standards. Much of her day involves guiding compliance, supporting root cause analysis and assisting with governance reporting and planning for improvements.

“Having a direct impact on how the business operates and ensuring that compliance, quality and safety are not just obligations and constraints, but enablers. Embedding quality, safety and compliance into everyday activities strengthens trust and improves outcomes and drives continuous improvement,” explains Sherry.

 

WHY ENROL ON THE CQI AND IRCA PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE IN QUALITY MANAGEMENT

Sherry wanted to strengthen her leadership skills and take a more strategic approach to quality and compliance. She said;

STRENGTHENING STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP

The Professional Certificate comprises of six courses designed for experienced practitioners seeking to develop their leadership skills. It covers topics including performance measurement, quality strategy, process excellence, supply chains, change and improvement and risk management. Sherry believes the course provided her with practical frameworks and tools she could apply directly to her role.

In particular, she found the modules on Leading Enterprise Risk Management and Leading Quality Strategy and Planning particularly insightful, as they highlighted how leadership can shape outcomes and influence beyond compliance, she said:

The skills and insights gained from the CQI and IRCA Professional Certificate in Quality Management have enabled Sherry to connect operational performance with strategic business outcomes. She is now able to take a more proactive approach to risk management, drive improvements and influence decision-making at a higher level.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Sherry is continuing her professional development through the CGI Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme, she’s aiming to strengthen her governance expertise and further support the business strategically.
