Senior Quality Manager, Arwen May, has recently achieved a significant milestone by completing the CQI and IRCA Professional Certificate in Quality Management. This accomplishment not only reflects Arwen’s commitment to continuous professional development but serves as an inspiration for professionals seeking to enhance their leadership skills in the field of Quality Management.

We caught up with Arwen to ask about her experience of studying the Professional Certificate in Quality Management, what advice she’d give others looking to study this course and what impact her educational journey has had on her role as a leader in quality management.

Arwen completed the Professional Certificate in Quality Management at the end of last year. At that time, her role included managing a large multi-location team, covering in the region of 20-25 construction projects in the nuclear and infrastructure construction industry.  Her team oversaw everything from quality inspections to the creation and monitoring of quality assurance. She also participated in large project client meetings and supports problem resolution.

For Arwen, the most rewarding aspect of that role lay in its variety. The constant challenges and the opportunity to contribute to her team’s growth made every day fulfilling.

“Helping the team develop and learn was really satisfying,” she explains.

WHY ENROL ON THE CQI AND IRCA PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE IN QUALITY MANAGEMENT?

Arwen decided to study the CQI and IRCA Professional Certificate in Quality Management with the goal of achieving Chartered status. While the qualification isn’t a prerequisite, the course demonstrated Arwen’s commitment to her professional development and provided a valuable opportunity to delve into areas of quality management that she hadn’t actively explored before.

“I enjoyed learning about areas of quality I’ve not been more involved in recently,” explained Arwen.

HER STUDIES GAVE ARWEN TIME TO REFLECT

Arwen’s studies gave her the opportunity reflect on how to connect theory with real-world application.

She said her favourite part of the courses was, “reflecting on how I’d applied theory in practice throughout my career to date.”

DISCIPLINE WAS AN IMPORTANT FACTOR IN COMPLETING THE COURSES

Completing the course while managing a full-time role presented challenges – centred around time management and motivation. Arwen highlights the importance of discipline in balancing work commitments with the coursework requirements.

“It is challenging working full time and finding time to set aside to complete the workbooks. Ultimately it requires discipline,” explained Arwen.

The completion of the CQI and IRCA Professional Certificate in Quality Management course has proven beneficial for Arwen. It has helped her refresh her existing knowledge and learn more about areas of quality management that were previously less familiar. The course has contributed to her professional growth by broadening her perspective on quality management principles.

She said, “It has been good to refresh on what I thought I knew, and I also learnt about areas I’ve not actively been involved in.”
