Hubert Ircow, Quality Manager at Mott MacDonald, is the latest learner to achieve the Professional Certificate in Quality Management. The CQI and IRCA Professional Certificate which is aimed at experienced Quality Management Practitioners, has given Hubert greater confidence, and has also equipped him with the tools to succeed in a more senior position within his organisation.

We caught up with Hubert to congratulate him on his recent achievement, find out more about his role as a Quality Manager at Mott MacDonald and ask him what value he thinks the CQI and IRCA accredited courses will have on his career.

Mott MacDonald is a management, engineering, and development consultancy, so Hubert’s role as Quality Manager varies depending on the project he’s working on.

“I am currently supporting a major infrastructure project for a major aerospace, defence and nuclear engineering services company based in Devonport. I am responsible for quality assurance on this project, so my typical day is making sure that the appropriate quality documentation is in place and all activities are conducted in agreed manner.

“The best thing about my job is that I am surrounded by knowledgeable people. I learn something new every day and that’s why my work is never boring. I also travel a lot, which also has its advantages.”

I WANTED TO EXPAND MY KNOWLEDEGE AND PREPARE FOR A MORE SENIOR ROLE

Hubert enrolled on the Professional Certificate in Quality Management, which comprises of six courses covering strategic and leadership topics, in order to expand his knowledge and prepare for a more senior role within his organisation.

“I decided to sign up for this course for several reasons, but probably the two most important ones are, firstly, I wanted to expand my knowledge around quality – however these courses go far beyond quality per se. They prepare candidates for senior roles which is always a bonus.

“The second reason is that CQI is a recognised brand and has built prestige among employers. I think that completing this course will help me find a position in the project in which I would like to take part, as well as a possible promotion,” explained Hubert.

THE COURSES ENABLED HUBERT TO STAY CURRENT IN A CONSIDERED AND SYSTEMATIC WAY

Hubert particularly enjoyed the Strategic Change and Improvement (PR306) course, which provides leadership skills in the development of improvement programmes, looks at approaches to change and improvement, as well as coaching and facilitating skills to achieve this holistically within an organisation.

“As a consulting company, we are mainly hired to carry out changes and improvements. Moreover, the world does not stand still, it is constantly changing, so we must keep up with it, but do it in a thoughtful and systematic way.”

HUBERT FEELS MORE EQUIPPED TO PROGRESS IN HIS CAREER

When asked how completing the Professional Certificate in Quality has helped Hubert in his role, he said:

“Thanks to these courses, I have become more confident that the knowledge I have, and this will bear fruit in the future.

“I think about CQI chartership (I am currently at Practitioner level) and a more senior position within the organisation and now I am equipped in the tools to achieve it.”
