Lee Edwards, CQP MCQI, has become the latest learner to achieve the Professional CQI certification after 10 months of intense study.

Lee, from Kepston Limited based in West Midlands started studying the CQI and IRCA Professional Certificate in Quality Management last October (2021) and successfully completed the course this August (2022), thanks to setting daily tasks to remain motivated.

We caught up with Quality Manager Lee, to congratulate him on his recent achievement and ask what he enjoyed about studying by distance learning.  And, most importantly, what tactics he employed in order to complete the course in a quick timeframe.

With over 25 years’ experience of working in quality, from starting as an inspector, becoming a quality engineer and latterly a quality manager, Lee explained what his role as quality manager entailed.

“In my currently role, there’s no such thing as a typical day.  One day I can be meeting customers, the next leading an audit, or dealing with an unforeseen challenges. That’s one of the best things about my role and working within a small company, it’s varied – no two days are the same.”

WHY STUDY THE CQI and IRCA PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE IN QUALITY MANAGEMENT?

Quite simply, Lee wanted to expand his quality knowledge and broaden his knowledge base.

LEE ENJOYED THE LEADING SUPPLY CHAIN ASSURANCE COURSE

“My favourite part of the course was the Leading Supply Chain Assurance course,” explained Lee.

“I enjoyed identifying the organisation’s customers, suppliers, and their key sub-contractors. As too, understanding their key needs, expectations, and any associated restrictions.”

The Leading Supply Chain Assurance (PR305) course is one of six individual courses which makes up the CQI and IRCA Professional Certificate in Quality Management.  This Certificate is aimed at experienced practitioners looking to advance to a strategic level and aspiring to become a Chartered Quality Professional.

LEE’S DAILY CHALLENGE

In order to remain motivated and keep on track with his agreed learning plan, Lee set himself a daily challenge.

“Due to getting a little bit older in life, I wanted to push myself.  I made sure that I completed at least one question a day to keep motivated,” said Lee.

BENEFITS OF STUDYING VIA DISTANCE LEARNING

“Unlike going to college there is no certain set times and days.  This makes it easier when you’re working a full-time job and you’re in the external audit season!”

HIS ADVICE TO OTHERS LOOKING TO STUDY CQI AND IRCA QUALITY MANAGEMENT COURSES

“I think the courses open your eyes to sections of quality you’re maybe not directly involved in, which is why I enjoyed PR305.

“If you willing to be put in the time it will certainly help broaden your knowledge base”
