A QA Officer has recently achieved CQI and IRCA accreditation, as well as the opportunity to progress within the company. Rebecca Todd has attained the CQI’s Practitioner Certificate in Quality Management in April-2023.
We caught up with Rebecca, to congratulate her on her recent achievements, to find out more about her role and what she enjoyed about studying with rove.
“As a QA Officer at Merit Holdings Ltd, an offsite construction specialists committed to sustainability, my typical day includes monitoring and maintaining the company’s ISO9001 quality system, project/site quality, dealing with client deliverables, welding packs etc. And, being in the business for 11 years now – it normally includes helping with whatever someone else can’t figure out how to do!
“The best thing about my role is that I am so trusted to carry out just about anything. It gives me real pride in how far I’ve come during my time at Merit, and I love being able to help people out. Also, every day is different – so I’m continuously using different skills.”
STUDYING PRACTITONER COURSES WAS A NATURAL PROGRESSION
Rebecca began her learning journey with rove in 2017, through studying the suite of Foundation courses. These courses are designed for those just starting off on their career, or for those with little formal training. They provide an understanding of quality management essentials.
“Having completed the foundation courses and really enjoying them, I wanted to further progress my career. rove’s courses were my go to, for natural progression and achieving that.”
Following successful completion, she decided to progress to the next level of CQI courses and began studying the Practitioner Certificate in Quality Management in April 2020 – at the height of the COVID pandemic.
“I began the practitioner course during the first lockdown of the COVID pandemic and after being furloughed, I felt, it helped give me something to focus on and work towards during such a difficult time!”
SCENARIO BASED LEARNING BROUGHT THE COURSES TO LIFE
“I really enjoyed the scenario based learning because it really helped me to understand how things work in the real world. All the things you learn about on the course, actually play out in real situations These will really help me with putting them into practice in my own work.”
THE IDEA OF TAKING EXAMS WAS OFF-PUTTING AT FIRST
“The most challenging part of the course was the exams, not the actual exam itself – but more so the idea of taking one after this long! But, once I got my confidence, I found they were a great addition to the practitioner course. They make you think in a different way and the extra studying was a great refresher of everything I’d learnt through completing the course workbooks.”
REBECCA’S INCREASED KNOWLEDGE LED TO PROGRESSION
“These courses have given me the ability and the knowledge to progress in my role. I now understand aspects of the quality system better. I am also implementing more, and more, of what I have learnt during the course to in the workplace.”
DISTANCE LEARNING ALLOWED REBECCA TO FIT HER STUDIES AROUND BECOMING A NEW MUM
“I really enjoyed the distance based learning and the flexibility it brings. I became a new mam while undertaking this course and I found with the distance based learning I could work around my maternity leave and return to work with ease. It has been a big adjustment and having the distance learning aspect helped, as I could work around family/work life in a way that suited me best.”
HER ADVICE TO OTHERS CONSIDERING STUDYING A CQI AND IRCA QUALITY MANAGEMENT COURSE
“DO IT! I’ve already advised other family members who work in quality to look into the courses and encouraged colleagues to take the step into Practitioner level after completing the Foundation Level!”
IT’S BEEN A PLEASURE TO SUPPORT REBECCA
Chris Smith PCQI, rove’s Programme Lead said, “It’s been a pleasure to support Rebecca on her learning journey over the last six years. I’ve enjoyed seeing her understanding of Quality Management, and her confidence grow, course-by-course. It’s fantastic to hear that her courses have helped her progress within the company – we all wish her, and her new family, all the best for the future.”
